Cheryllyn is an African Christian Democratic Party MP in South Africa since June 1999:
- the Chief Whip of smaller political parties;
- serves on International Relations PC, Social Development PC and the SA/EU Focus group;
- in 2017 made history as the first Member of Parliament in SA to have a private members bill passed;
- has drafted and submitted 4 other bills including the current Animal Protection bill calling for a ban on testing on animals for cosmetic purposes;
- is a member of the International Panel of Parliamentarians on freedom of religion & belief (IPPForb);
- is on the board of an NGO providing support for moms of newborn babies and preschool children in disadvantaged areas;
- recently studied Strategic Diplomacy and Transitional Justice @UJ Soweto;
- married with four children and 6 grandchildren.
