A Capetonian all my life, I am married to Allison and have two adult children – Jason and Erin. We have lived and work in Durbanville for 13 years.
After the Defense Force, where I came to know God, I qualified as a Electronics technician and Programmer. Convinced of God’s call I then studied theology and went into pastoral ministry for 23 years where I also developed my love for cross-cultural mission and discipled others to do the same in Southern Africa. Leaving my denomination and pastoral ministry I joined a church planting movement in the UK and headed up their theological training in Africa for a period. Since then the Lord opened opportunities to serve in China from time to time through under the name of my ministry called Intentional Encounters.
To support myself in 2013 I qualified as a Complementary Health practitioner where I also have opportunities to minister to ‘unchurched’ clients who are struggling with chronic pain and stress illness.
I served in the SA Police in 2 Specialised Units from 1984 to 1995 executing specialised tasks including bodyguarding VIPs such as Madiba…FW…Mbeki….Vlok etc etc In 2004, I went to Iraq and is still there currently working for International NGO.
My experiences of witnessing and partaking in multiple traumatic events led me to PTSD and alcohol dependence and many other sins until the Lord through His mercy and compassion saved me in 2015.
Do real men suffer with mental health issues? Is it biblical to battle with depression and anxiety, or is it just a matter of insufficient faith? I will be pleased to share my personal experience with respect to both depression and anxiety.
CS Lewis said, God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to our conscience, but shouts in our pains – it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.
“A Million Miles is not only a story about how my journey with Him transpired, but rather something to keep in our hearts every day. It’s our journey with God, going forward.
Every time we seek Him, He reaches out to us. But we’re so caught up in life that we often miss what He is showing us. Even if He shows us A Million times.
We must just keep seeking Him and get to know him better. The more we get to know Him, the easier it will be for us to understand His ways.”
